Dual university degrees between Colombia and Germany have gained relevance in recent years, facilitating access to academic programmes that combine training in the two countries. Several Colombian institutions have established alliances with German universities, allowing students to obtain degrees valid in both countries, thus enriching their academic and professional profile.
For example, EAFIT University in Medellín has alliances with institutions such as the Leipzig Graduate School of Management and the University of Bremerhaven. These alliances allow students to spend their final academic year at the German university, which gives them the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and strengthen their training with a practical approach, linked to the German industry.
Meanwhile, the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB), which recognizes the GIB programme in the admissions process, has established several dual degree agreements with German institutions, enabling its students to obtain degrees recognized in both countries. One of the most prominent agreements was signed with HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts, from Hildesheim, which allows students from the faculties of Advertising, Industrial Design and Graphic Design to complete their studies in Germany and receive academic recognition from both institutions. This alliance since 2017, has an initial duration of five years and promotes student mobility between Colombia and Germany.

Benedikt Weissenburger, from the International Affairs Office of Deutsche Schule Medellín, highlights the importance of these programmes, which are increasingly valued, as they allow students to prepare for the global labor market and affirms that, “the exchange allows students to learn about different cultures and perspectives, which is vital in today's world”.
In these cases, German universities recognize the value of the Colombian degree, which makes it easier for graduates to access postgraduate programmes in Germany, increasing their international employment and academic opportunities.
In addition, studying in a second language (usually English or German) is a common requirement in these programmes, which also enhances the competence of graduates in a global market.
At the end of their studies, those who obtain a degree from both Colombia and Germany have a comprehensive education that gives them a competitive advantage in their careers, especially in Europe, where a German degree is highly valued.
